Getting started
The first use of matchwire, screen by screen, for candidates and hiring teams — from registration to a confirmed interview — plus the disclosure settings and the dead ends you can hit on the way.
This guide walks a candidate and a hiring team through their first use of matchwire: registration, the profile and preferences, the first job posting, expressing interest, the proposal, mutual interest, the chat with that company, and the confirmed interview. Every step here is completed on the screens alone. Connecting an AI is optional and comes last. Each section carries the names you see on the screens, so you can follow it while you use the product. The FAQ, How matchwire works, explains the design behind these steps.
Candidate path
Register and log in
The home page offers Create your agent for free and Log in as a candidate. Registration opens under the heading Create your agent: enter an email address and a password. Depending on the environment the same page may also offer Continue with an email link or Continue with Google. A confirmation email follows; open its link, and the screen says Your email address is verified. Log in to continue.
After your first log-in, in an environment where the terms of service and privacy policy are configured, the page Agreement required appears first, and Agree and continue takes you on. An Account setup step may offer to verify a phone number; Continue without registering skips it. There is no screen for choosing a role: a candidate account and a hiring-team account are separate accounts with separate log-in pages.
Profile
Profile is the first page after registration. It holds your basics and self-introduction, work history, education, skills, certificates, languages, links, and materials such as a resume. The footer says Write it later until you add one work history or one education entry; then it turns into Next. The screen itself explains the rule: Adding one work history or education entry turns this into Next.
Preferences
Next opens the preferences page, titled Terms. It holds your intent (whether you are looking, open to a good opportunity, or interested in side work), preferred occupations, work locations and annual salary, employment type, ways of working, and private conditions that companies never see. Every change is saved as you go and the page says Saved. The footer turns into Start with this once you have chosen a work location; until then it reads Choosing a work location turns this into “Start with this”.
Ready
Start with this lands on You're ready. The page offers Use it from your usual AI, which is optional, and Go to Home. Matching starts once three things are in place: an intent that says you are looking, open to a good opportunity, or interested in side work; one work history or one education entry; and one work location. Home reminds you of the missing piece with the sentence Add one work history or education entry and matching starts.
Find jobs and tell them you're interested
Search lists Open jobs, and each job page shows the posting beside your own preferences. Tell them you're interested is the application: it reaches the company, and you may add a short note for the company, which it reads before mutual interest. Save keeps the job on your list and reaches nobody. Pass takes it off your list. Companies cannot search for you; they meet you through a match to one of their jobs or through the interest you sent.
Decisions: matched jobs, proposals and mutual interest
Decisions collects what needs your answer. A Matched jobs card is a job that matching has put in front of you: answer with Tell them you're interested or Pass. A proposal card is a company's move: the company picks one or more of its published jobs, or Terms independent of any job posting, and proposes them with no message attached. You answer each with Interested or Pass. A proposal of terms says Not tied to a job posting — the terms are talked about in the chat. When your interest and the company's proposal are both present, in either order, Decisions announces Mutual interest with the company's name, and the chat opens.
Chat
There is one chat per company, listed under Messages. Its history carries the line Mutual interest — the conversation is open, and the job is the topic, shown as Topic: followed by its title. You and the company talk freely there, terms included. Ask for another job tells the company you would like a different proposal, and the company can propose again from the chat. The rail on the right, Sharing with this company, shows what this company has received from you.
Interview slots
The company proposes interview slots from the chat. They reach you as a Pick a time card in Decisions. Pick a slot, or choose No slot works and, under Times that suit you (optional), describe in plain words the times that suit you. The company then confirms the slot. The confirmed interview appears on the selection page with Confirmed schedule: and the date, Add to calendar (.ics), Their day-of contact: and the company's contact for that day, and Cancel the interview for as long as the interview has not started. After the interview the company records its evaluation, and a Continue or not card asks you whether to continue with this company or withdraw.
Hiring team path
Log in and your organization
The hiring team's door is Hiring-team log-in. There are two ways into an organization. Where self-registration is enabled, Register your organization asks for the company name, your name and your email address; Send verification email leads to Complete registration, where you set a password. Where it is not enabled, that page does not exist, and you join through an invitation from a member of your organization. On your first log-in, Account setup asks you to Register two-factor authentication: start it with Start setup. An admin who cannot use an authenticator app may choose Waive the requirement and continue and turn the requirement back on later in the organization settings; a member sees no such button and, as the screen says, asks an organization admin to waive the requirement. Then Company asks for the company information, and the ready page ends with Go to Home.
Members and roles
On the organization's members page, Invite opens Invite members, which sends an invitation by email; the invitation link is valid for seven days and opens Create a staff account. A member has one of three roles. Admin does everything a member does and also changes the organization's settings. Member does all of the recruiting work: jobs, candidates, messages and reports. Evaluator sees only the evaluations requested of them, and neither jobs nor candidates nor messages.
Write and publish a job
Jobs lists your postings. New job and Create the draft open a draft whose tabs are Overview, Pipeline, Posting, Brief and Settings. Under Posting, the publish checklist names what the Employment Security Act requires, and Publish becomes available once it is met. A published job is Published: it is now in matching inside matchwire and visible to candidates who search.
Listing the job outside matchwire is a separate operation. The Internet listing section on the same job offers List on the internet, which makes the posting reachable from search engines and a public URL for people who have no account. It requires the job to be published first (Publish to the market to list it.), and withdrawing the listing does not unpublish the job: The listing was withdrawn. The market publication continues.
Meet candidates and propose
There is no candidate search. A hiring team meets candidates in three places: Matched candidates in Decisions, People for this job on the job's overview, and the candidate detail page opened from either. The detail page shows an anonymous profile and the comparison of the job's conditions with the candidate's preferences, and it says Name, title, and summary are private. They are disclosed as the selection progresses, at the stage the person has set.
Propose opens a picker of your published jobs, with Terms independent of any job posting as its last row. A job the candidate's private conditions exclude shows only Cannot propose. No message rides along; only the proposal reaches the candidate, who answers each row in their Decisions. Pass on a matched candidate is an internal record the candidate never sees, and you may propose to that person again later.
Mutual interest and chat
When the candidate's interest and your proposal are both present, the chat opens, and Messages lists it. The chat is one per candidate; jobs are topics inside it, and you can propose another job from the chat. This is the moment a credit is used, as the Billing page states: One credit is used the moment you and a candidate reach mutual interest and the chat opens. Nothing later, including the confirmed interview, uses a credit.
At zero credits the Billing page shows New matching is paused because you have no mutual-interest credits. Buy credits or turn on auto-replenish to resume., and candidates see each of your jobs as This job is not recruiting right now. A self-hosted community edition has no Billing page and no such pause; see Self-hosting.
Confirming the interview
From the chat, Propose a slot offers interview slots to the candidate. The candidate picks one, or says that no slot works and describes the times that suit them; the times the candidate registered also filter the slots on both sides. You then confirm the slot with Confirm. Either side can cancel the confirmed interview before it starts; the next slots come from you. After the interview, record pass or fail as the interview evaluation, and the candidate answers whether to continue or withdraw.
Disclosure settings
Before mutual interest a company sees only an anonymous profile and the comparison of conditions. Your name, your contact details and your materials are shared in stages you set on the Privacy page, and that page also answers a company's sharing requests for you. Its three parts are the answers to sharing requests, the companies you share with, and the companies you don't match with.
How sharing requests are answered
How sharing requests are answered is a ladder per item. The four steps are Do not answer automatically, After mutual interest, Once scheduling starts and After a passed interview.
| Item | Default | Opens automatically | Taking it back |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | After mutual interest | At the chosen stage, once that stage is reached with a company | No manual undo; sharing ends by itself 14 days after every selection with that company has ended |
| Email address | Once scheduling starts | At the chosen stage; the address is your log-in email | None: a delivered contact does not come back |
| Phone number | Once scheduling starts | At the chosen stage; the row exists only once a verified number is set for contact use | None: a delivered contact does not come back |
| Each material | Do not answer automatically | At the chosen stage, per material; the same setting sits beside each material on Profile | Stop sharing on Profile, or deleting the material |
Answering a sharing request
When a company asks for something your setting does not open automatically, the request comes as a card with Share and Decline, in Decisions and under Sharing with this company on the selection page and in the chat. A request for a phone number you have not registered offers Add a phone number in place of Share; the request for your phone number is filed when an interview is confirmed. The card explains why it is asking, with You don't answer requests automatically, so please confirm here. for a material, or, for your name, Your setting is followed by your current step and Your name is not open to this company yet, so please confirm here. What you decline stays declined: the same company is not asked again for the same item.
A setting change is not retroactive
Moving a step on the ladder changes only what happens with companies that reach that stage from now on. It opens nothing toward a company that already passed the stage, and it closes nothing that is already open. The only way to open an item toward such a company is to answer its sharing request with Share.
How sharing ends
Companies you share with lists, per company, the shared information and the current selection. When every selection with a company has ended, the row shows Sharing ends in and a count of days: fourteen days later the name and the materials close by themselves and the chat closes with them. Contact details are the exception, as the selection page says: Contact details already shared remain in their hands.
Companies you don't match with
Companies you don't match with is not a disclosure setting; it stops matching with the company in both directions, and the company also stops seeing your intent. The screen says The company is never notified and sees nothing. Your current employer, taken from the work history entry you marked as current, is on the list automatically and has no remove button. Any other company you add yourself, with Add a company and Add, can be taken off with Remove and Confirm the removal, after which matching with it resumes.
The record
The Privacy page's rail, Record, shows the latest sharing events, and See all opens the full history: what was shared with whom, when, and whether by your setting or by your answer to a request. On the hiring team's side nothing of this is configurable: the candidate detail page says only that information is disclosed at the stage the person has set.

| A chat that has closed | The chat is read-only after sharing with that company ended | A new mutual interest with the same company opens the chat again from Decisions |
Connecting your AI (optional)
Everything above is complete without connecting anything. As the settings page puts it, Even without connecting, every decision and report still arrives here. Connecting the AI you already use lets it read and act on the same screens from your side, within the authorization you grant when you connect. Candidates start at the connection manual; hiring-team staff use the separate organization door described in Connect as a hiring team.
